Iron-deficiency anemia

Introduction

In-deficiency anemia is the most common type of anemia worldwide. It happens when your body doesn’rot have enough iron to produce hemoglobin — the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. Without enough oxygen, the body feels weak and tired.

🔹 Causes

  • Poor diet lacking iron-rich foods (meat, beans, spinach).

  • Blood loss (heavy periods, ulcers, or injuries).

  • Pregnancy, which increases iron demand.

  • Poor absorption (digestive issues like celiac disease).

🔹 Symptoms

  • Fatigue and weakness.

  • Pale skin.

  • Shortness of breath.

  • Dizziness and headaches.

  • Brittle nails or hair loss.

🔹 Who is at Risk?

  • Women of reproductive age (due to menstruation).

  • Pregnant women.

  • Children and teens in growth spurts.

  • People with poor diets.

🔹 Treatment & Prevention

  • Eat iron-rich foods: red meat, lentils, leafy greens, fortified cereals.

  • Vitamin C helps absorb iron (eat oranges, strawberries, tomatoes).

  • Iron supplements (only under medical advice).

  • Treat underlying causes of blood loss.

Conclusion

Iron-deficiency anemia is common but very preventable. With the right diet and medical care, most people can recover quickly and regain their energy.
